Project Overview

The aim of this project is to identify the challenges faced by creators and develop a plan for our next product. We have received feedback on our previous product and we would like to address the issues faced by creators in order to improve our next product.

My Contributions

Developed a new stylus acceptance standard

based on user behavior with great success for the product line.

The Senior PM in charge fully supported the results

and showed clear understanding of the action items listed in the report to enhance the stylus experience.

A new product to be developed based on my research outcome

A new product will be developed and we have formed a partnership with other leading companies such as Intel and Wacom.

Before conducting research, it is essential to ask myself the following questions:

What are the steps that a user researcher can take to effectively address product issues?

Background

Before study planning, I filtered out the complaints into two categories: can or cannot be improved by a user study.

Customer reviews looked like this…

  • I don't know how to adjust the stylus sensitivity or button assignments. The price makes it unlikely for me to recommend it to friends or colleagues.

  • Stylus pressure sensitivity and performance are important factors to consider when selecting a device for drawing. Additionally, screen size is important when using the "Stand" mode. A snap function for the screen would be very useful in this mode, as it is particularly interesting for drawing. Increased stability would also be guaranteed with this feature.

5 questions I will clarify before study planning

Question 1

Which issues are known?

Question 2

Which factors are remaining to study?

Question 3

Who conducted a similar study?

Question 4

How much time do I have for the study?

Question 5

How many resources do I have?

Research Goals and Hypothesis

🔍 Investigate digital drawing behavior

🔍 Determine ways to enhance digital drawings for specific products

Users cannot achieve the same outcome when drawing a straight line with the current ConceptD SKU digital device compared to drawing with pen and paper.

Users cannot achieve the same outcome when drawing a curved line digitally with the current ConceptD SKU as they can with pen and paper.

Users cannot achieve the same outcome as paper and pen when coloring larger areas with the current ConceptD SKU

Study Outcome and Action Plan
Study outcome
  • Based on my study, it has been determined that E1 would be a fitting tool for product designers, provided that certain issues are resolved.
  • On the other hand, E2 seems to be a more suitable option for illustrators, but only after resolving some concerns.
Action plan
  • I have invited the RD team to reflect on their past experiences and create innovative engineering solutions for our all-encompassing action plan.
My Learning
To overcome the challenge with a clear strategy to facilitate an end goal

Success in overcoming challenges requires a well-defined strategy that leads to a specific goal. In the process of usability testing, it’s important to pause and discuss any changes to the product or features with stakeholders to ensure that confirmed tasks remain intact.

Key videos to strengthen the impact of the study

To make a greater impression, it’s important to convey the study’s findings in a clear and concise manner, backed up by solid evidence. Incorporating snippets of user feedback can be a powerful tool in convincing stakeholders.
